Try to go for Mass otherwise you have to pay to get in. Is worth it for the history, though.

A big piece of California history are the Missions. Cough up the entry fee and give yourself an hour of learning! Don't forget to check out the cemetery - I lived on the other side of the fence ;)

The oldest intact building in San Francisco is Mission Dolores (1782-1791). It was made famous in the Alfred Hitchcock movie, "Vertigo."

Mission Dolores is the oldest building in SF, built in 1791. Two major earthquakes couldn't topple it, but powderpost beetles almost did in 2000. Thankfully, they were stopped.
